2022 ESC Guidelines on cardiovascular assessment and management of patients undergoing non-cardiac

surgery.

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) has recently completed a comprehensive review of the existing

state of medical evidence and clinical trial data relating to the management and mitigation of cardiovascular

(CV) risk in patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery. In this comprehensive review process, specific manage-

ment options were evaluated and scored according to predefined scales for rating levels of evidence and

strength of clinical care recommendations. These rating systems are detailed in inside cover page Table

1 and Table 2.

The evidence and clinical care recommendations derived fromthis review have been published in unabridged

form and made freely available on the ESC website and the website hosted by the European Heart Journal.

Here, we present as an educational tool a compilation of essential clinical care information extracted from the

full guidelines. Users of these Pocket Guidelines are reminded that the topics and medical evidence covered

herein are covered in considerably greater detailed in the published source documents referred to above.
