The Solitary Pulmonary Nodule, Imaging, Presentation & Differential Diagnosis presents a review of the pathogenesis, classification, and imaging of the Solitary Pulmonary Nodules (SPNs). Several illustrations are shown in this book, including lung hamartomas, pleural fibromas, sarcoidosis, bronchial carcinoids, and bronchoceles. Furthermore, a variety of mediastinal cysts, as seen on plain radiographs, and cross-sectional imaging are also discussed. The imaging modalities employed include chest radiographs, Computed Tomography (CT), and both axial and High-Resolution; ultrasound is increasingly employed, including trans-thoracic, intrabronchial, and transbronchial and dual transbronchial and transthoracic to obtain tissue for histological diagnosis. MRI is also being used for tissue characterization. Radionuclide imaging, such as PET/CT, provides both functional and anatomical tissue diagnosis and is an evolving technique.
