Pass the CASC
by Dr Gourika Seshni Moodliar-Rensburg
Pass the CASC book is the number one resource for the CASC exam for the Mrcpsych since 2012. The 7th edition has been updated to the new online CASC exam and new format of the CASC exams for the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Pass the CASC book by Dr Seshni Moodliar Rensburg is used for CASC clinical assessment of skills and competencies
exam for the Royal College of Psychiatrists but also for the Irish Exam CFME in Ireland and RANZP exam in Australia and New Zealand. This is the 7th edition with past CASC exam stations. It’s written in the format for the current exam of 7 minute stations. On the PTC newsletter of the Royal College of Psychiatrists , Pass the CASC has been mentioned as a popular resource.
A review from a UK Consultant Psychiatrist and CASC received via email on 18/2/2022
I took CASC in 2012, and Dr Moodliar’s Pass The CASC book was easily the dominant reading resource I used to pass it. It is the definitive book for CASC – I still believe it is one of the best resources ever written for any exam.It is an incredibly well written book. The organisation, indexing, structure, question body andsummaries were a work of art and genius. Each station is extensively peer reviewed which gives great confidence and standardisation in an otherwise subjective field.I have been a CASC examiner since 2020. I do feel the CASC can be an uncertain and even unfair exam with no clear way to succeed. However Dr Moodliar, and her team clearly did everything possible to bring a degree of certainty in it. It was exhaustively and thoroughly well-written. Furthermore, unlike in other exam books, its also a very practical guide to structuring interactions with patients using well chosen peer-reviewed phrases.Dr Moodliar herself is selflessly helpful with her support besides the use of the book too. She and the book really empathise with the candidate, as a benevolent guide to take them through the process to success. It just seemed to have the answers I was searching for during my journey as a candidate and examiner.Even today, all the other textbooks, despite their strengths, can be splintered, and are certainly not as all-encompassing.Before I saw this book, I never thought there could be such a book. This book was the critical material resource to pass CASC. CASC is a practical examination, and so practice is the key irrespective of any materials. However, this book is a masterpiece and I would recommend it as a must have for anyone doing the CASC exam as the main reference material including for structure, efficiency, and use of language. It is one of the best exam books I’ve read in any discipline for those reasons.
